My cat is two years old, and no I don’t think I’ll be walking her around the block, as I don’t think she’d be fond of the idea. I feel that’s something I’d have to have practiced when she was young. But since my cat is shy of strangers, I’m thinking a harness would work well on vet visits, just having that extra grip, especially during shots… What do you guys think?

We have a harness trained cat and it’s very useful. She broke her leg as a baby and made many trips to the orthopedic surgeon over 3 montsh so we just decided to leash train her rather than crate her at home and during trips. It worked VERY well and she liked it better than the cage.
It will take some getting used to but you could train your cat for harness for what you want it for. :o)

Some vets require cats to be in crates and will not allow them in the office on a leash.

Having dealt with feral cats for the last 7 years, I personally think a towel would be a much better idea than a harness. The cat can be secured by wrapping the towel around them keeping claws safely tucked in. I would talk to your vet and see what his idea is on this. If the cat is just shy and not likely to bite or attack with her claws and you just need that extra grip, then it might work for her. Make sure you still take her to the vet in a carrier.

No she's not an attacker. She's just your average scaredy cat. And yes she'd still be going in her carrier.

Then I would give it a try. :) It might work for her! I'm so used to ferals that I forget some cats are just plain timid and not ready to rip our eyes out!!! :)
