Why don’t you have these things?? These are basic essentials for having a cat. If you cannot provide basic essentials, you have no business taking on a living creature.

You can feed your cat some cooked chicken (PLAIN) in the mean time, but I’m really not sure what to tell you about a litter box. Do you have litter? If you do, just fill one of those giant tupperware storage containers and use that for the time being.

Seriously, though, you need to go out and get these things IMMEDIATELY and provide adequately for your cat.

You can use a cardboard box for a litter box and shreaded newspapers for litter. This will have to be changed every time the cat uses it. As for food, it looks like you will have to find something from your food. Chicken is best, or a can of tuna. But really you should scrape together enough money for some cheap cat food. Check with you church or food pantry. Check with the shelter, maybe they can help you find food until your money problems are over.

I agree with ziggy_bo43. If you don’t have the most basic items to taking care of a cat, why do you own one? Your local pet store will have these items and other things you can use to take care of your cat.

I agree that these are essential items for caring for a cat. Is this just a temporary financial problem? If so, you can check with local churches. Our church actually has some pet supplies along with food in it’s food cupboard. Please do something soon!! No cat should be without such essential items as food or a litter box.

Listen, I haven’t been here long… but you should have some basic supplies. It’ll cost you about $6-10 to be set up for a month. However, kudos to you for caring for a cat. Our shelters are overwhelmed, people are moving and leaving their pets in neighborhoods, and more and more cats and kittens are being put down every day in this “world has gone crazy with dogs” economy.

Local discount stores have basic items like cheap cat food - look for the biggest bang for you buck for now… chicken and rice can substitute, so can tuna if it’s on sale. However, over the long run… cat food will save you. For a litterbox you can use a cardboard box and litter per szaro’s instructions.

Try Craig’s List as well for your area… or yard sales… or other people with cats - We have 7 and have lots of extra supplies that the kids have grown out of…

Please take care of your new addition properly… we all beg you.
