I’ve had my kitty on wet food (special kitty) for awhile, I know there is water in it so that’s okay, but to me it looks like she isn’t drinking out of the water dish, I’m sure she is somewhat but still I’m worried, should she be drinking a good amount of water still? Tips on getting her to drink more? Or could I add extra water to her food?
P.S. I’m pretty sure after reading the other food topics I’m switching her to Wellness, just the nearest Petco or Petsmart is two hours away. But I’d rather her be healthy than settle for mediocre.

Hi! I’m glad you find the other cat food info on cats.com so helpful. You can order Petco and Petsmart delivery if its too far of a drive for you. Also, many of the websites that Kat recommends allow you to learn about a brand of food and then you can search by zipcode for closest store location to you. Sometimes they are at small stores as well that might be closer to you!
As far as why the kitty isn’t drinking water, I’m not sure. It might not hurt to try filtered water, sometimes local water has chemicals in it that give off certain tastes or smells that people or animals might not like.

maybe its not drinking water because youre feeding it canned food. canned food carries a lot of water, so i shouldnt be worried. and you should sign up for the petsmart and petco membership... its free and you get many free shipping coupons

Hi Miana,
Good for you for feeding your kitty an appropriate diet of wet food! And I’m very glad to hear you will be switching to wellness soon. Special Kitty is very low quality and keeps landing on recall lists. You really should switch asap.
It’s normal for cats eating a species appropriate diet of wet food to *not* drink water often. Since cats aren’t big water drinkers in the first place, adding water through thier diet, just as they would get water through thier prey in the wild pretty much crosses out the need to force consume water from an outside source such as a bowl.
There is no need to worry. As long as your kitty is still urinating normally it’s just fine.
Meow!

i think you should see how it is this week and then take it from there. i thinkk that if she/hr was really thirsty your cat would drink watever it could.

is your kitty a kitten if so it should be drinking plenty of water, but as they get older water isnt diary to them !! out of the question but try to mix the wet food with dry food if you keep doing what your doing your cat may have diaherra and this may cause death from poopingng too much so to prevent this just give her half wet food and maybe some dry!!

We do filter her water, we have the brita system. And change the water daily. The only thing is she’s been a big fan of her water dish in the past. I’m sure it’s the change to wet food that’s lessen her drinking. I do she her lap it a couple of times a day still. But I have been eyeing her constantly to make sure she’s still drinking water enough. I think that I’ll add some water into her food dish as well and see how that goes as well. Thank you for the help everyone, and I’ll sign up for the petco.com. The store isn’t that far away, it is two hours but we do go a couple times a month as it’s got more stores, our city is great just don’t have petco or anything like that.. Thanks again for all the help.
