What cat brush would be best for a mixed breed cat with short hair?

6 Answers  |  Asked By: Cedar   343

Does anyone remember when I had a message on cats.com about my cat Sneesy having a nosebleed? It turns out that she accidently scraped her nose on something since she is blind in one eye, thats all.

Well, I just came back from vacation and she seems a lot more healthy and active strangely enough, except for one thing. A couple years ago she had this habit of pulling her own fur out, but she stopped with some help from the vet and now her fur has grown is completely back in the patches she knawed at. My problem now is since she is so old she is not taking care of her fur like most cats do, and its becoming increasngly matted.

I don’t want to use the cat brush I have for it’s made for cats with thick long fur. Sneesy’s fur is fairly thin and short. She was originally a stray, so her breed is probably mixed. Does anyone have a suggestion of cat brush for her?

I use a slicker on both of mine - one has a short thick coat and the other has a long thick coat. They are both serious furballs!! I use the slicker every few days, then every couple of weeks I use the Furminator. It\\\’s a de-shedding tool. Once you get her crazy coat under control, this is a great way to help reduce shedding, matting, and fur ingestion.

I use a fine-tooth comb, where the teeth are close together.

The easiest thing is a slicker brush every day or two and the shedding tool as needed.

If it\\\’s not too traumatic you might need to bathe her every now and then. There are premoistened grooming wipes you can get too at some pet stores that might help and be less of a battle than dousing her in water.

I can\\\’t give a suggestion for a short hair because i use brushes made for people with the soft ends on my cats. The harder ends and brisles on my dog. And the comb for my rabbit. Were just weird in my house. lol. :P
