First off, that’s not true. Cats can be hurt falling. Secondly, it’s a combination of the tail, their extremely flexible spine, and very fast reactions. Now a small field mouse or frog, they can be dropped from any height (except orbit of course) and survive. Its because their terminal velocity is so low.

Exerpt from book “the 125 most asked questions about cats (and the answers) by John Molone:

The maximum height from which a cat can fall and survive is now judged to be 120 feet. But that is uusual, and survival will depend on other factors, from air currents to the surface on which the cat lands. In addition, if the cat is in a vertical position instead of a horizontal position (upside down is still horizontal) when the fall begins, it will have a much harder time positioning itself for a proper landing, which requires the back to be arched.

I hope this helps.

well you see, cats have an enlarged jumping gland that improves there buoyancy between there feet and what ever they land on. so therefore, depending on how high the thing/building/cliff/moving car/airplane you throw them off… well…
you be the judge of the outcome.

MOST of the time cats land on their feet. But other times if they are caught off guard, they may land on their side, head, or back and really hurt themselves. So be careful with your kitty jumping and falling!
