i always hear that cats always land on their paws when they fall, is that true?

Not always, but cats do have an internal mechanism that helps them know which way is up so they can usually right themselves before hitting the ground.

It really depends on why the cat fell in the first place. If it was hurt or stunned, it would just fall and land on what ever part hit the ground first. If the cat slipped or was pushed, it would turn its self in mid air to land on its feet. If its thrown, it would probably not land on its paws. Hope this helps to answer your question. Meow for now!
