I don’t really have a question - I just wanted to tell my tale of life with a dieting cat.
When Poppy was 2 she weighed 24.6 pounds. Although she’s a Maine Coon type her ideal weight is actually around 17 pounds. So, oops! Long story short, I found the best method for weight loss and followed that. I was disappointed to find out that in the first year she only lost 5 pounds, but hey, it was progress!
Then I decided to make some changes to her diet. Although they were for the better, during the adjustment period she picked up a few extra pounds. Not quite back to where she started but not far off either. I finally got THAT fixed - she was just over 20 pounds - and then a snake appeared in the grass. A snake with two legs and a mustache. Namely my husband. He admitted that he’d been sneaking both cats some extra treats. And to cover up what he was doing, he was running water in the sink so I wouldn’t hear the food dropping into the bowls!
He said that they were hounding him and they had really stepped up the cuteness factor. Even porky Poppy was actually sitting up and begging for food! Well, I couldn’t really be angry with him because a few nights later she did the same to me and I caved. But like an alternative universe Scarlett O’Hara, I vowed that she WOULD be hungry again!
So anyway, I’m still determined to get her down to 17 or even 18 pounds. Even though cats can safely lose up to one pound per month, it’s going to end up having taken us over TWO YEARS to lose just 6.5!
