Home > Cat Health > Vet > poop bits on anus
There are two bits of hard poop on either side of my cats anus. They get bigger very gradually and eventually fall off and then tiny new ones start to ‘grow’. If I pull one off (tried once) a piece of skin rips off with it! Ouch!

It sounds like he’s having problems with his anal glands. Take him to the vet - they can squeeze them out.
If you don’t it’s possible that they’ll become infected.
Not only that, who wants a poopy cat butt in their house? If for no other reason than keeping your house clean, get him to the vet as soon as you can.

Yes, as beastmaster said this is an anal gland issue. You should have the vet take a look, but it may be normal. Some cats just have a darker idscharge than others. As long as the area is not red, inflamed, wet, or infected it should be fine. Allow the cat to clean the area as it wishes, and if you must, after confirming with a vet that there is no impaction or infection of the anal glands, soak a wash cloth in warm water and compress on the glands until the excretions are soft. Then wipe them away. Never pull them off when they are “hard”. That would hurt the kitty.
Good Luck!
