how do cats get fleas?

They get fleas pretty much just be being there if they go outside, or by being around other animals that have fleas. This is less of a problem in the winter but if your cat comes indoors from being outside the fleas can survive indoors. They only spend a small amount of time actually on your pet, they hide out in carpets and around baseboards and crevices in your home, or in the grass and greenery outside the home during warm months.

You can use several topicals like Frontline, Advantage or Revolution to control fleas if your cat has them and vaccum and clean your house thoroughly to control an infestation.

Usually your cat can get fleas by another cat or dog. When a cat is close or rubs up against another cat or dog, Fleas can merge to your cat. If this occurs just get some flea or tick cat shampoo which you can order online or buy at a petstore.
