Our house is infested with them!! It’s come to the point where we may have to get rid of our two cats and our dog. I’m so worried! Here’s what’s going on:
We give our cats and dog Frontline, but after discovering a few fleas on our pets, switched to advantage. DIDN’T DO ANYTHING. NOTHING. It’s gotten sooooooo terrible!! I’m getting bitten badly as well as my family. We’ve done everything we know how to do: We’ve given my dog flea baths after flea baths, put flea collars on the cats and dog, sprayed flea killer on our rugs and furniture, repeatedly washed our beds and vacuum like crazy, and more and more we find. We pick about 10 off of our dog every day, flushing them down the toilet. Our cats are indoor/outdoor cats, probably the carriers. I can’t do anything about changing that though. I really don’t know what to do but let my parents get rid of the fleas. They itch so badly my legs are all scarred and scabbed. It’s kinda gross. I NEED MAJOR HELP PLEASE!!!! ANY advice would work…we’ve been told now not to use a fogger, but we think we may have to bomb the place. ANY ADVICE! Thanks.

You CAN get rid of the infestation. We had a problem 4 or 5 years ago when we brought in infested cats. It did NOT take months to get rid of them. And we had 20 cats at the time with 4 dogs. We chose to bomb because it was the fastest way to rid our house of fleas.
First make sure the cats are treated every 30 days with frontline or advantage. It does work. The problem is your house is infested and the little buggers are hatching on a daily basis.
Your first step is to vacuum, vacuum, vacuum! Vacuum your entire house paying particular attention to corners, dark crevices, under furniture, under beds, pet beds, rugs and especially around skirting boards. Put the nozzle attachment on your vacuum cleaner and thoroughly vacuum around all skirting boards and edges of fixtures. Make sure you have flea powder in your vacuum cleaner. If your vacuum cleaner has a bag, throw it away. You say you\\\’ve been vacuuming but if you didn\\\’t put flea powder in the bag, you just gave them a place to live and hatch.
The vibrations from vacuuming also stimulates the fleas to emerge from their cocoons and thus they will be exposed to the insecticide that will be used.
Spray all carpets, rugs, floors and places your pet sleeps with a flea surface spray, flea bomb or fogger that kills flea eggs, larvae and emerging adult fleas. Check the label of sprays for active ingredients. Use one that contains IGR. Make sure you get into every nook and cranny and pay special attention around skirting boards and under rugs and furniture. Adams has a wonderful flea spray product.
Make sure if you use flea bombs, that you carefully follow the instructions. Animals must be out of the house, fish tanks covered with plastic and filters turned off. Open closets, pull bedding off the beds, and do not leave any food dishes out while you bomb. Pull cushions off the sofas and chairs. It seems like alot of work but if you bomb and treat your cats with top-spot, you will virtually wipe out the fleas in one day. Make sure you use the bombs that kill the eggs as well as adult fleas. This is a mistake many people make. We also put a flea bomb in every room and the basement as well.
The older generation of flea control products (Flea powders, flea collars and dips) are now completely obsolete. YThey just don\\\’t work to wipe out the fleas. The latest treatments are top-spots, which are much safer for both pets and humans. Do not use any other products on your cats if you use these top spots. I\\\’ve seen many people nearly kill their cats by putting a flea collar on, flea bathe them and then use the top spot. You only need the top spot and they do work!
Getting rid of fleas on your cat or dog alone does not tackle the overall flea problem. During the flea cycle only about 5% of fleas are actually living on your dog or cat. The other 95% of fleas (in one stage or another) are living in your house or yard. That is why it is so important to kill the fleas in your house and on your cat or dog at the same time.
Fleas feed on your pet’s blood and make your cat uncomfortable A heavy infestation can cause it to become anemic and unwell. Flea infestations have been known to kill kittens. Some individual animals are allergic to flea saliva and this causes the pet abject misery with constant scratching and self mutilation. The most common allergy dermatitis in cats and dogs is a flea allergy. Fleas also spread tapeworm from one animal to another.
Remember that while the fleas are in the pupae stage (in their cocoons) they are not affected by insecticides. The cocoons are watertight and protect the developing flea. This is why you may think you have killed all the fleas and larvae in your home but a week or two later you are still seeing adult fleas.
Continue vacuuming regularly after the initial treatment.
As long as you let them out, you will have to use top spots monthly to keep from re-infesting your house again. If you live in an area that has snow, once the first frost arrives, fleas will no longer be a problem until spring.

Fl;ea larvae will drop off the cats whereever they go. Which means that everytime they go outside and lie down in a favorite spot they will probably pick up more fleas (that dropped off earlier). Since you can\\\’t treat the whole outdoors, it may be necessary to confine the cats to one room in your house until all the fleas throughout the house are gone. All chemicals used to kill fleas are poisons. The kind and amount that will kill one flea will not harm cat, dog or human. But enough of a stronger poison to kill hundreds of fleas can be hazardous or even deadly to cats and humans. Getting rid of a flea infestation can take months because of eggs and larvae. Good luck.

If the cats are treated with frontline or advantage, they will no longer bring fleas into the house. 95% of fleas are in the house while 5% are on the animal. They can rid their house quickly if they use a flea bomb.

they\\\’re both right larva can add up to many!! i had the same thing go to a pet store and they will give your cat a 6 hour flea bath they will be all gone but make sure she doesnt get reinfested!!! put her in a flea-less room (idk were but i used my attic) and do the same for your dog, ect…… now you can wait it out. 1 hazard the flea baths are costly so you need 2 pay if u do it yourself the fleas WILL climb into her eyes and infect them!! its a terrible situation but i did it for my bff so u do it 2!!

Bathing the cat is a waste of time and money. It will kill the fleas on the cat at the time of the bath. And you can not bathe a cat and then add top spot. Too many chemicals can make your cat deathly ill.

I would just add to do everything catsofmany said but also boric acid or borax can be put on all carpets for an hour and this will only kill eggs and larvae because it dries them out and they die. Then vacuum it up. Be very careful to cage or remove pets from home until you vacuum it up because it will harm them. Then spray ortho max on every corner and noock of your home and also do a 6 foot barrier of spray around your home. this will kill the adults. Religiously frontline animalls every month and borax and spray home every three months it will work. I had a terrible infestation and they are gone. But miss one month and they will come back full force.
