When I brought my cat home from the vet on Wednesday, I noticed a foul smell coming from her. Is this due to her being shaved or that I am not allowing her to clean herself there or something else?

Do you see any sings of infection or swelling? If so call your vet. We’ve had several come home smelling very bad because they had urinated all over themselves. Is it that kind of smell?

We just adopted a new cat and he STUNK - like, awful awful… not like waste, but like decay… It turns out that his previous owners allowed him outside and that he’d been injured. The cut had gone untreated and had thus abscessed. The horrible stench was the abscessed wound! The vet flushed it out and it’s healing. Almost instantly the scent was near gone. It’s been about 24 hours since the flushing, and he smells MUCH more normal now. Infection is a terrible smell!
Look at her incision area. If it is oozing pus, that could be the culprit. If it looks red and infected, bring her back to the vet. Our other cat bit her stitches (then staples, since the stitches didn’t hold!), causing infection. Watch that she isn’t biting at the area and allowing it to become irritated or infected.
If the smell is identifiable, like urine or feces, check her back end to see if any waste is attached to her fur from not being able to clean. That’s easy enough to remedy with a damp, gentle cloth!
Good luck! ![]()
