Cat has a wired hole on chest?

9 Answers  |  Asked By: Cal619Guy   1

It’s between the rib cage and belly (between his two front arms). It feels like a hole opening. What is it?

It’s not an open wound or anything like that. It’s covered with fur. He had it since he was smaller (he’s 17 weeks now). He is very hyper and happy.

If he were an older human, I would say he has a hernia. But this might just be normal development for a cat. Just keep your fingers out of there, and when you bring your cat to the vet for shots or neutering, ask the vet about the weird hole. And if any lumps start to poke out thru the hole think vet and hernia surgery (not to be delayed - not even for a day or two).

jpete46 may be right, it could be a hernia. A rarer condition that may be what you describe is pectus excavatum which is a birth defect, but it\\\’s very uncommon in most cats. \\\”Munchkin\\\” breeds (cats with a type of dwarfism who have very short legs) get this more commonly than other cats. It can be very mild and barely noticeable or it can become severe and life-threatening, it depends on how bad the deformity is and how it progresses as the cat grows.

If he seems otherwise healthy and not in any pain I wouldn\\\’t worry too much about it but it\\\’s definitely something to bring up with the vet. Your cat should have its first vaccinations by 17 weeks so if he has not gotten those, you need to take him in anywyay, so that would be a good time to ask.

What kind of wire is it? If your cat isn\\\’t properly grounded that could explain the hyperactivity. Is the wire shielded and UL rated for in cat installation? What gauge is the wire?

Is this one of those cats that you have to put batteries in with a fur flap covering up the battery cavity? Maybe that\\\’s your problem.

On the other hand, if the wire is a standard usb or miniusb, you can get a wireless usb adapter… check Best Buy. See the link for appropriate USB adapters. Just remember to take the adapter off when you bathe your kitties, they are not waterproofed in any way.

Look, I\\\’m an electrician. I can help you out with your cat\\\’s wiring. You may just need a ground fault circuit breaker in it, or it that\\\’s overkill possibly a GFCI outlet would work.
