Some vets will spay but charge you a bit more to do the operation unless you wait until it\\\’s over. I don\\\’t think it\\\’s inherently more risky, though if you discuss it with the veterinarian they may be able to tell you of any specific risks. It shouldn\\\’t last more than a week so if you set up the appointment for the middle/end of next week the cat should be out of it by then..

As telegramsam said, there is probably no more risk for the kitten while it is in heat. But all operations have risk. When the vet says NO food or water for the kitten after ??pm the night before, that is to cut down on the risk to the kitten. Many cats (and people) undergoing anaesthesia will vomit and choke on that if they ignore the vet\\\’s (doctor\\\’s) advice and eat or drink when they are not supposed to. The night before, the kitten may cry for food or water, but don\\\’t give in thinking \\\”A little won\\\”t hurt any\\\”. A little bit can kill. If the howling (from heat) is too much for members of the family, get the kitten spayed right away, otherwise someone might toss it outside, where it may disappear for days. Or they might let it \”sneak\” by them when they open a door.
