Adopted a cat and has extremely smelly wet poop! Help!
I adopted a male cat a little over a month ago and he’s about a year and a half old and he’s fixed. He seems healthy except for the fact that he has extremely smelly ,wet poop.
It’s not quite diarrhea because it has somewhat of a form but not much. It also stinks a million times more than any cat poop that I’ve ever smelled. He’s had it since I adopted him and it’s not gotten any better. I don’t have any money to take him to the vet because I lost my job.
Just wondering what it could be and if it is life threatening and also if there is anything that I could try at home that might help. He is the sweetest most loving cat in the world so I hope that it is nothing major.
He has had all of his shots except for rabies. For some reason, the shelter does not give rabies shots. I did call them to ask about his foul smelling wet poop to see if they had any ideas and they said “bring him back and we’ll give you a different cat”. Ummmm NO, I don’t want another cat. They are NOT a no kill shelter either!

If you take your cat to the vet and they rule out tapeworms, then you should try putting him/her on a different cat food for a few days, maybe one that is for delicate cat stomachs. You can also try feeding your cat rice water, it\\\’s very soothing and it sort of soaks up the acid that may be causing the bad poo situation.
good luck

Thanks for the reply. But I adopted him from a shelter and he was found as a stray. I adopted him de-clawed so I know he had an owner at one time but no way to find out who.

It could be tapeworms, because tapeworms eat all of the good stuff out of the food your cat eats and they live in the cats stomache. That would result in HEAVY, STINKY diarrhea so maybe if you try to do things like do jobs around your comunity and get some money from it you can get your cat in for a check up. It actually might be a good Idea to take him back to the shelter… (personaly I would never do that especially if there is a chance they might put him/her down, I love cats too much) so do your best to get a new job or get some money and get a perscription for your kitty cat!

You can also give your cat Immodium AD- BUT MAKE SURE YOU ASK YOUR VET SO YOU CAN GET THE CORRECT DOSAGE.
