I have a shorthaired cat a little over one year old. She hasn’t had any hairballs yet and I’m just wondering if I’m just lucky or if it’s an eventuality with all cats. Should I be proactive and get those treats that claim to help with hairballs? Is it only a matter of time until she develops them or do some cats just never get them? I’m kind of hoping she just never develops them but given the amount of cat fur on my couch I can’t imagine it won’t happen…

If you mean she isnt throwing up hairballs? Your lucky and thats fine. My oldest who is 14 rarely throws them up. I guess it means they are digesting their hair well plus its winter and they arent shedding as much. Summer is when you will see more shedding. I buy the cat food that helps with hairballs and my three cats - 3, 5 and 14 rarely throw up. I\\\’m sure your cat will have one sometime, but if she doesnt dont worry!! LOL Plus all the hair is on your couch!!

Cats only cough up their hairballs if they can\\\’t digest the hair they\\\’ve ingested. If you keep your cat on a high-quality diet and brush her regularly, you may never experience the joys of the hairball.
If you do notice her hacking, give her a little bit of plain canned pumpkin or a dollop of hairball remedy. These will help your cat pass her hairballs out the other end.
