My cat, Sylvester, has been limping for about 2 weeks now, refusing to use his rear right leg, and I have no idea why. He is my baby, just over 1 1/2 years old, so I do not suspect arthritis. I used to have his mother, and still have 2 of his siblings, and have heard of no problems from the friends who have taken in the other kittens (though they are not kittens any more! :)), so I also do not suspect any genetic problems. He has no visible symptoms, other than the limping. He is an indoor cat, so I don’t think he did anything drastic to hurt himself. My mom and I have both checked his leg several times, and have found nothing abnormal. My mom is also reluctant to fork over the money to take him to the vet, so any help on the cause and (if any) a solution that does not involve veterinary care would be appreciated.

I don’t think there’s much you CAN do without a vet/

i think the only way is to bring him to a vet. i suspect he could have broken his foot though, since cats like jumping around, breaking a foot is not uncommon

you must see a vet. this cat might just have a minor problem. or it might be serious. she might have something in her paw, she might have sprained it. i think you should see a vet, or have a vet come to you, which is what we do. i hope i helped ![]()

If at all possible, you should have him checked by a vet. One of our ferals broke her leg before she was trapped. It healed before we knew she existed and were able to trap her. Our vet said we might have to have it surgically rebroken if she didn’t regain use of that leg. We were lucky that she was able to regain the use and only has a slight limp now. But it’s a risk not to have it checked.
It could also be Feline calicivirus (FCV) which can cause so called ‘pyrexia and limping syndrome’, where they suddenly become lame on one or more legs and get a high temperature.
It could simply be a sprain but the best advice is to have a vet check him to make sure.

My mom will not take him,she is convinced that it is just a sprain and will heal on it's own. At 13, I can't exactly take him myself.....

Well, I would, except that I would get grounded for 3 weeks for disrespect. He is looking a little better though.

My cat has same problem except he is good a couple of days and then starts limping again and goes off his food but drinks lots of water. i took him to the vet and he wouldnt listen to me so i left. tried to tell me could be a fracture hurt himself jumping. he is indoor cat as well and stays off of furniture. so why is my cat limping? i give him a small dose of vitamin D and very small amount of advil and that seems to perk him up quit abit. i havnt done that long enough to see if it will go away but as long as it makes him feel better, im going to keep doing it.
