Our cat is 6 months old. Last week he seemed fine. Jumping, playing. This week, he is hiding in the closet, slowly climbing on the bed, not playing, he kind of acts like his hips hurt. He is eating so we are puzzled. Can anyone help?

He may have fallen or slipped and injured his back, hips or legs when no one was looking. It could have happened if he tried to jump on something too high for him, missed, and landed badly. At any rate I would have him checked out by a veterinarian, he may have fractured a bone or torn a ligament or tendon. He’ll probably need an x-ray but your vet can determine what’s wrong with your cat and what needs to be done about it.

the same thing happened to my cat a couple years ago. she couldn’t jump up on the bed, couch or anything. at night she would use her claws to climb up the side of the bed. she had a hard time with the stairs too. i took her to the vet and they did x-rays, even shaved her hind quarters to make sure she didn’t have a puncture wound that was swollen but they found nothing. they said she probably just pulled something or bruised something falling or landed wrong when she jumped. it took a couple weeks but she got better. i would take your cat to the vet. he may get lucky like my cat and not have hurt himself too bad but he could have a dislocation or fracture. it’s better to be safe than sorry. i don’t know if your cat is like mine but since she slept with me and was insistent on getting in the bed even with her injury,i made makeshift stairs she could walk up to get in the bed with me to help her out. i used old phone books and two big photo albums…it worked.

Take him to different things you think he might be afraid of.
If and when he hisses, that means he’s afraid of that particular thing.
Maybe he hurt his hips last week.
Take him to get an X-ray.
