Is it posible for a cat’s brain to be fried from being stuck in a car for 3 hours?
My cat’s full name is Dashboard. He got his name from an incident that happened when he was only a few months old. On her way home, my mom stoped at a local coffee shop to get a few snacks, when she overheard a couple of the workers talking about a little kitten that was going to have to live outside. My mom quickly said we would take it (we were looking for another cat from local shelters because ours recently passed away) because we don’t like the idea of cats living on the streets. So she put the cat on her lap so she could drive the short 1/2 mile home, but then he got scared and ran into the dashboard some how. It took like 3 hours to get the poor kitten out and it was during a heat wave in late June. Ever since then, Dash has been the sweetest little thing for his almost 4 years of life, but my family thinks that he became ditzy because of his experence in the hot metal car. Is this possible?

There would have been signs of heat stroke at the time. Heavy panting, glazed over eyes, rapid pulse and unsteadiness or staggering. If there is brain damage from over heating or lack of oxygen you would see some physical signs. They do not act like normal cats. They usually will lack the normal balance that cats should have. They’re not as “bright” as a normal cat and many times have to learn how to walk or eat again. Like a person who suffers a stroke. But they can live a normal life and be a very loving companion.
We have 3 cats that suffered brain damage and our vet has one.
Our vets cat was found frozen to an old washing machine in a shed last winter. He wasn’t breathing when they found him and barely had a heart beat. He doesn’t hold his head straight, walks with a stiff gait and has a Jekyll-Hyde personality.
One of ours was a kitten who suffered heat stroke and starvation. She couldn’t use her back legs when we first found her but did eventually get the use back though she’s not as agile as a cat should be. She also lost the sight in one eye. She couldn’t eat on her own. When she did start to eat on her own for many months we had to remind her to eat at feeding time. She’s 7 now but never became a “normal” cat. She’s definitely missing something “upstairs” but we adore her.
Another one was attacked as a kitten and his head was nearly severed from his body. He was barely alive when they found him. He doesn’t hold his head straight and walks with a stiff gait. He sometimes has a blank look on his face and appears to be very kitten like in his behavior even at his age of 8 years. He’ll lick his paw when we pat him.
Our 3rd one suffered a very high fever that nearly killed him this past January. He lost the sight in both eyes but did recover sight in one eye a week later. He was clumsy for awhile, couldn’t eat on his own and was very confused. He is actually recovered more to normal than the others did.

It’s certainly possible that he could have experienced some sort of trauma while stuck inside the car. It’s also possible that he experienced something before you found him. And, perhaps most plausible, it could just be his personality!
All that matters is that he is healthy and happy; it sounds like he has a great home with your family! Lucky guy!

If you had all the doors open and he wasn’t in direct sunlight… it’s unlikely, though possible, depending on exactly how hot it got under the dashboard and how long he was exposed to it. Though if he’d been brain-damaged there would be symptoms of some sort, I think.
He may just be a ditzy cat. They are out there, I owned one myself once who was dumb as a box of rocks and she hadn’t been stuck in a dashboard ever to my knowledge. If he seems healthy I wouldn’t worry about it.
