My cat Phoebe has always been small, but now that she is older I worry that she doesn’t weigh enough. She is only 9 pounds; is that ok? She is such a sweet cat and she appears healthy, but I really am worried about her.
If you think she is under weight then please let me know how to help her easily gain weight.
Thanks!

Cats are all different, just like humans and other animals.
A large built big boned cat will weigh more than a small boned petite cat. I have big and tall built cats that are a muscular and healthy 19 pounds… and on the other end of the scale I have a teeny tiny boned cat who weighs in at a meer 7 pounds yet she is at a healthy weight as well. Based on their individual body structures I could never compare them. It’s best to assess your cats weight by it’s body condition and not compared to other cats.
Here’s a chart to help you do that…

I’m not really sure because my cats are 5 months old but weigh 37 ounces so I don’t know.

If she has started to lose weight, I would probably take her to the vet. Better safe than sorry. I have one cat is is 7lbs and one that is 14lbs. Both are good weights for their size.
