My friend brought home a cat that the shelter told her was female and it actually ended up being a male. How can I tell on my own?

It’s best to try to find the sex of a kitten after 10-12 weeks of age. Lift their tail and locate their anus directly below the tail. In females, right below their anus is a slit. In male cats, there is a small patch of fur right below their anus where testicles form as the cat grows older. There will also be a circular opening below this area.
If you’re still in doubt, take your cat to the vet. New kittens should have a trip to the vet within 10 days of coming home for the first time.

I do this with the Parrots I rase so I know this works. Works on all anamals. Get a pencel, a short (6-8 in.) piece of sewing thread or string, and a small steel nut or washer (the smaller the better). Tie the nut to the string. Then the string to the pencel. You may have to towl the kitty. Put ithe kitty in the towl on a table (not your lap). Hold the nut/washer close over the kitty. If it goes in a circle it is a female. If it goes in a streaght line eather way it is a male. Am old wives tale that dos work. It is not 100% accrate so take this with a grain of salt. Over 15 years of raising Parrots (800 + birds) this has a accreecy rate of 90% on Parrots. You can not tell the sex of most birds by “looking” at them.
