If your cat’s eyes are watering the cause is likely to be one of three things, the first being a bacterial or viral infection. Often times cats pick up “colds”, just like humans do, from other cats or from their environments. These diseases can cause watery eyes as well as sneezing and runny noses. A cat’s watering eyes may also be a sign of allergies. Watch for this during the spring months when pollen counts are high or when something new has been brought into the home, such as new carpeting or furniture. Lastly, watering eyes may also be a sign of irritants such as dust or debris getting into the cat’s eyes. If your cat’s eyes remain watery for more than a day or two have her examined by your veterinarian. Certain infections may require treatment with antibiotics.
