Cat went blind during surgery

8 Answers  |  Asked By: goofyirishgirl08   3

My parents have a cat they just had neutered last week. Buster is 5 months old and went into what the doctor called respiratory distress during surgery, and when they tried to wake him, they noticed he had lost his vision. My parents are deeply upset over this, and the vet said they did everything correctly. Has anyone ever heard of this happening? The vet said that Buster may get his vision back, we have to wait and see. Buster’s sister (Baby) was spayed at the same time, and she is fine.

I have only heard of the blindness happening one other time and that was in a beagle dog. To my knowledge the dog never recovered his vision (even though they said he might) but he gets around just fine.

Something goes wrong during the surgery and the animals go into distress. For some reason or other they lose their sight, and in some cases they get it back.
