My grandparents cat is dying, what can I do?

9 Answers  |  Asked By: Cedar   343

My grandparents have a 16 year old cat named Tris. For most of her life Tris has been incrededibly fat but recently tris’s brother Shandy died and just before that she became unbelievably skinny. Her feet are bent strangely from carrying so much weight for so long. She is an extremely finicky eater and often grabs food and then spits it out before swallowing. She is much less active then she should be and today I fould her drooling her head propped up against her water bowl, clear liquid coming out of her eyes. Shes not at the water bowl anymore, and the clear liquid dissapeared and shes not drooling anymore. She looks fine suddenly but I don’t think she’s going to survive to see 2010, is there anything I can do to help her live just a bit longer? Please bear in mind that I am not the cats owner, so what I can do is limited.

it might just be her time :( if they took her to a vet & there\\\’s nothing they can do, all you can do is keep her comfortable.

Update:

About four hours as of writing this, Tris died. I told my grandparents the day before to bring her to the vet and they decided to bring her in on Monday. Tris didn\\\’t survive that long. Since my grandparents are old they have decided that they are not getting another cat.

Cedar - I\\\’m sorry to hear that Tris passed. Your grandparents gave her a long, happy life; that\\\’s the best we can ever hope to give our cats.

If they decide later that they miss having a cat, maybe you should suggest that they foster cats instead of actually adopt one. It\\\’s a less permanent but still rewarding way to help out cats in need.

well first of all get a cat fountain so she can drink properly cause some cats dont like water bowls. you should give her plenty of vitamines that the vet could prescribe for you. feed her wet food because dry food creates a finicky eater. Ask the cats owner to socialize with her often and cats get really depressed when someone is lost in thefamily she might be still depressed right now. Any way we cant do anything BUT that oh and do some monthly visits and if the owner thinks she not feeling well as a change in behavior bring her to the vet. The only hing you can do now is wat i hae to remind you that she\\\’s 16 years old and shes really old shes about 80. Positive thinking will help the situation tall your grandparent not to feed her table scraps and feed her her food (but be careful for by products and caorn because corn s highly indigestable to cats and by product are poor meat sources that sometimes dont even contain protein chekfor bha or bht or ethoxyqui there all harmful preservatives.that ARE TOXIC. feed her veggetable but be careful which kind you give her. ask your vet about harmful veggies and other fruits and stuff. give her some cat grass.

if your cat hopefully not dies you could start cpr. heres a site: http://globalcrisis.info/CPRanimal.html

but cats have the potential to live 20 years (up to)
so check her diet.

hope she ok

God has a time for everything. And it might be hers. They might not be anything you can do. Try asking a vet.
