It could be an irritant or allergy, as the others have said, or it may be the beginning of an upper respiratory tract infection (\\\”cat flu\\\”) which can be caused by over a dozen different viruses that cats can catch from other cats (but not people). If the cat\\\’s eyes become watery/runny, the seezing gets worse, or the cat gets a fever, she probaby has this.

If that\\\’s the case there isn\\\’t too much you can do besides keep the cat warm and try to get it to eat and drink water. Antibiotics won\\\’t clear up a virus, though if the cat gets a sinus infection or some other secondary infection they may be needed. Dehydration is the biggest issue to watch out for. If your cat refuses to eat and drink you can take it to the vet and the vet will give it subcutaneous fluids (saline put under the skin with a needle) to keep it from dying from dehydration.

Hairballs come from the stomach, so there isn\\\’t really \\\”sneezing\\\” involved with hairballs.

If it\\\’s happening often, a trip to the vet may be in order. If it only happens under certain conditions, like in the dustiest room in the house, or when the air conditioner/fan comes on, it could just be irritants in the air that are making her sneeze.

Sarahpretty - my comment isn\\\’t posting -

In response to the gagging you mentioned in your answer:

Gagging/wretching is what they\\\’ll do for a bit before they actually produce a hairball. When my cat is ready to get one out, she\\\’ll be a bit gaggy for the day or two beforehand, then voila! Nasty little present for me to clean up! What did you get to help with the hairballs? Most are petrolatum based, so they coat the hairs & make them less susceptible to matting up & thus easier to pass. You can also try some plain pumpkin puree or catnip (to eat). The fiber helps to move things along, including hairballs. Don\\\’t expect to see immediate results with these things, though. It takes time for hairballs to develop, and by the time they\\\’re ready to expel, they can be pretty big.

Additionally - make sure you\\\’re grooming her regularly to help remove loose hair that she would end up ingesting when she cleans herself. That\\\’s important in keeping hairballs to a minimum.
