Weight for a cat depends on several factors: the breed, sex, nutrition during the first year or two, and current nutrition. Some breeds, like the Maine Coon, are large, and five pounds would not be normal. Females, in general, are smaller than males, sometimes weighing only half as much. If the cat did not get good nutrition during the first year or two, it could have stunted growth. Insufficient exercise (due to lack of energy) as a kitten could also contribute to a smaller size. If current nutrition is poor, it could be skinny. In any case. five pounds would be a small cat, but not abnormal.
