If your cat lost a lot of weight, and you are currently feeding him properly accoring to the instructions on the food but he’s still not gaining weight, a trip to the vet is in order. There could be a medical condition preventing him from gaining that could easily be cleared up with proper treatment.

It might be a good idea to take your cat to the vets. Have you been feeding your cat more than usual, though, because he’s not gaining weight? If not, I think you should do that. But take him to the vet first and see what she/he thinks.

Your cat probably has a minor medical problem, which could be checked out by a vet or feline weight expert!

Sounds like you cat may have a thyroid problem. A simple blood test from a vet can tell you for sure. But if he truly looks bony looking and seems hyperactive, those two things together are typical symptoms of an overactive thyroid which can be easily fixed with medication. If it is an older cat, say 7 and up then that increases the chances it is thyroid related.
OR is the cat outdoors? He may have contracted one of the many feline viruses out there, if he is not fully immunized. Bottom line you need a blood test. Feeding ‘junk food” is NOT a good idea. You can try some calorie dense gels, usually sold next to the hairball remedy and see if that helps.

Take Gilbert to the vet as soon as possible! A cat that loses a noticeable amount of weight without an obvious cause is sick. There are any number of things that can cause weight loss. You say he is also drinking a lot of water- it could be diabetes. Others have already mentioned thyroid problems or cat viruses. It might be parasites. It might be something very simple and easy to treat- but failing to treat even a simple health problem can let it get much worse. So take him to the vet- don’t let Gilbert suffer!
