Hey guys, I’m currently looking for some treats that have some sodium for my cats. It all started when we got our new baby Kiss. On our dresser we have some cool looking rocks we found on the beach one day. Well Kiss found them and now she licks them all the time. So I’m on the hunt for info about cats & sodium. I’d love to hear your suggestions.
Love you guys, Tasia

Most treats have sodium in them. It sounds like your cat likes the taste of salt. Read the following article. I would check with vet on adding a little salt to your cats diet.

Cats do not need “salt licks” like herbivore animals do as they get all the salt they need from their diet… and in fact too much salt may be quite bad for them just as it is for us, even if your cat enjoys the taste. I would not suggest feeding your cat a high-sodium treat, cats are not like deer, horses, etc.

Just as an aside - deer and horses and similar creatures seek out natural mineral and salt licks because their diet of vegetation is severely deficient in many minerals. They'll even eat some soils to make up for this deficiency and learn to find these resources and will return to them time after time, even teaching their foals and fawns where to find them. A cat, however, is a carnivore and their strictly animal-based diet has everything they need without having to "supplement" it with mineral licks. Most commercially-produced cat foods include these minerals in sufficient amounts as well, including sodium. Adding extra sodium to your cat's diet could easily make her very sick. Salt poisoning is rare in humans but is very quickly fatal when it does occur (usually this happens in children with a condition called Pica who eat strange things compulsively, including table salt potentially) as it causes the brain to swell.

I don't want to give my cat a salt lick. lol. That's not what I asked. I just want to find some treats that have like a pinch more sodium than the ones I use right now. Thanks for the info, I am already aw4a4r1e of all that though.

Well sorry but you weren't very clear or specific in your post - you said "sodium treat" so I assumed you meant a salt-based treat, not a regular treat with a bit of salt in it.

That's okay. Normally people shorten the titles. It's okay that you went off of the title. Quote: Hey guys, I’m currently looking for some treats that have some sodium for my cats. No harm. No foul. By the way I'm making a video contest on purrfect pairs. My video will be up today on it. Miana90 on youtube.

We are on holiday I didn’t want to bother her on vacation. So I came here first. Now I don’t have to bother her when I see her at work in a couple of days.
I did find exactly what I was looking for. Thanks for the input I wanted a treat that had a pinch more sodium than the cats current treats which hold almost no sodium.

it’s very normal . Most treat and food have suplements of soduim . Most treats are good if you put 10 small grains on the food . Also ask the vet for a thing called Sodie Cats . It’s bassically salt that is safe for cat’s to eat with no fat or preserves in them . So , you’re cat won’t gain wieght and be un - healthy .
