My oldest cat has started his twilight years, and is now suffering from nearly constant diarrhea. My doctor told me eating bannanas will constipate me, so this seems like a neat solution. The trouble is, I work odd hours and travel a lot for work, so I have a feeding machine that I activate over the internet to feed all of my cats. I have a webcam on them so i can watch them eat. I started leaving a bannana for Butters (my old cat) and wrote his name on the peel. But for the last couple of days he sniffs it and actually nibbles on the peel a bit, but I think he needs to get the bannana meat to actually get the therapeutic benefit from it. I can’t peel it for him, because then i couldn’t write his name on the peel (try writing on bananna flesh!).. so my question is, how do I teach my cat to peel the bananna himself? Butters is old but still sharp as a whip, I even taught her to read, but I don’t know how to go about training her to open the bannananas.

You could get a feeding machine just for Butters, write his name on it and include a peeled banana in it. Or do just what you are doing, but peel the banana and then put the peeling back on. So . . . your other cats can read too? So that they know Butters name, and will leave his food alone?

P.S. Someone catmailed me and called me a liar! But I realize what she means, Butters can\\\’t read everything, just her name and a few other words, like \\\”poop here\\\” and \\\”no exit\\\”, and i like to think she can read \\\”i love you butters\\\” but who knows. But she definately can read her own name and a few other english words.

The other cats (most cats I think) dont eat banannas. Yeah Butters knows i would like him to eat the bannana, he knows because while i pet him i eat some, and then feed him some of the bananna I just ate, so he knows that i want him to have some. I just write it in on there for when I am away because I think cat\\\’s have short meomories. That is a great idea though, basically peel the bananna and put it back in the peel with his name on it, then when he plays with it the banana should jut fall out of the opened wrapper. I will try it next time i am out of town, while I am here it is easiest just to hand feed him the banana.
Thanks jpedro!
