Well i am not all too sure but maybe if its hard then his teeth are hurting him. Maybe you should get it checked out by a vet???? I mean someone who knows for sure should also give what they know but that is my best answer… Sorry!!

If he’s been eating his food and then suddenly refusing it, he likely has developed some condition or illness that needs to be addressed by a veterinarian. As Jess_15 mentioned, he may have a problem with his teeth or any number of other issues.
It is also possible that the manufacturer of your cat food has altered the ingredients or formula of the food, or there is something wrong with it. Try a couple different other brands of cat foods and see if the cat will eat something else. Cats should not go more than 24 hours without food as they are prone to developing a condition called hepatic lipidosis which is a dangerous liver disorder and can be fatal. If you can’t get to the store, tempt him with a bit of chicken or tuna or something else enticing to get some food into him until you can find a good cat food that he will eat.

Your cat has surely developed a problem, such as hurting its teeth, getting a digestive problem, etc. You should get your cat to the vet immediately. In the meantime, try to warm the cat food up in the microwave for about 30-40 seconds before you feed it to your cat. Also try tuna canned food, which cats often find hard to resist. However, if your cat STILL refuses to eat, vet care is totally necessary. Unlike dogs, cats that refuse to eat will even starve themselves to death.

If you warm it up in the microwave, be sure to stir the food with your finger to make sure it's not too hot. I think 30 to 40 seconds is abit long. I would do 15 to 20 to start then add seconds as needed. Unless the food has been in the refrigerator, it doesn't take long to stimulate the smell.

Usually room-temperature is warm enough. If I pull the cat food can out of the fridge and put it down Rose usually just leaves it until it warms up a bit, then scarfs it down. It doesn't need to be *hot*, just *not cold*

When my cats have trouble eating, I chew the cat food up myself, and mix it with about a cup of mayo. I then hold my cat down and forcefully insert the catfood mayo paste into its mouth. Hope that helps :).
