24 lbs is quite large for a cat, even a big breed like Maine Coon.

You need to control your cat\\\’s diet. Simply feeding a different food isn\\\’t going to help if you don\\\’t control portions. Are you leaving food out all the time? Do you constantly re-fill the bowl every time it is empty? Or worse, use one of those gravity feeders?

You need to work out the amount of food your cat should be eating daily to lose weight at a healthy pace. Your vet should be able to help you work out a diet plan. Figure out the exact amount to feed and split it into 2-3 meals a day. If your cat is used to a 24-hour kitty buffet he many not like it, but you need to be firm.

Obesity can cause all kinds of problems for your cat including diabetes. You need to be careful though, if your cat loses too much weight too fast he can end up with a serious liver condition, which is why it is important you work out your cat\\\’s diet with the vet. Your other cat should also be eating a controlled diet so she doesn\\\’t become obese like the other one.

You may need to switch to a canned food. It tends to fill up cats better than dry food and has less carbohydrates which are bad for cats and tends to make them gain weight. Most dry food is based on corn meal or rice which are not healthy in a cat\\\’s diet.

Talk to your vet and see what he/she can come up with for a diet and/or exercise plan. The sooner you start the new plan, the longer your cats will live. Canned food can be a very good option.

Try playing with your cats to get them moving around a bit more. That will help the process along, It\\\’s also good bonding time for you and your cats. Enjoy them.

You can always loose your cat\\\’s weight by playing. For example. roll a ball for it to catch, think of some yourself. Play regularly though.
