There has been a big pet food recall, and I want to make sure my cats are safe. These are the foods I use: Kirkland Super Premium Maintence Cat, Hill’s Science Diet - Kitten - Original, Hill’s Prescirption Diet - Feline - t/d, Purina Friskies Pate, and I often use Whiskas.
Have any of these foods been recalled?
PS. What does t/d stand for? Tooth and Dental I’m guessing.

I don’t see any of those foods on the recall list… however please understand that every single food you listed in low quuality and if possible you should choose Cat foods with at the very least one GOOD protien source in the first 3 ingredients.
For example… Science diet TD contains Chicken By-Product Meal, Brewers Rice, Corn Gluten Meal, Ground Whole Grain Corn and Powdered Cellulose 10% which are completely inappropriate ingriedents for any cat food. It’s high priced garbage and you could do so much better for your cat.

Ok Kat, so what food do you suggest? You've told me the ones I use aren't that good, but you haven't said what ones are ok.

Science diet is full of low quality ingredients. I'm sur eyou have seen my posts already abotu what foods are appropriate to feed a cat. Feel free to search the site for mor information. I suggest you both read at www.catinfo.org and educate yourselves avout feline nutrition.

science diet is great

And yes… TD is For the Nutritional Management of Cats with Dental Disease However it will do NOTHING to clean your cats teeth. Dry food does not clean teeth. Do pretzles clean your teeth? No. So why anyone would think dry kibble cleans teeth is beyond me… and fortunatly beyond most new vets. Dry food does NOT clean teeth.

Looks like Kirkland was part of the first recall is has MANY lawsuits filed against them for killing pets.
I wouldn’t feed it.

From what I’ve read, food manufactured by Mars are the ones being recalled. This is their website and it lists all the foods affected. Go to Petcaremars.com and click on recalls. There have been alot of problems with Nutro Pet foods. I’ve been following consumeraffairs.com because our cats and dogs became sick after being on Nutro for several months. I would avoid this food. Nutro denies any problems but there hundreds of complaints of sick and dying cats and dogs.

all of these foods are low quality except for the science diet, and why do you feed your cat so many different kinds of foods. i think you should just stick to the science diet. if you ask ill show you a website where you can keep printing out 5 dollar science diet coupons

To answer Johnisgood2’s question, Kirkland is the adult cats’ normal food, the kitten food is obviously for our kitten, the t/d food is because the adults’ teeth are kind of grimy, and we feed our cats both wet and dry food, so that’s why we have hte Frisjies pate. Besides, cats like variety. They will get bored with one food all the time.
