You should definitely have him check for parasites as careh advised.

If your cat has worms they are sucking the nutrition from the food he eats ebefore it gets to his digestive tract. No matter hwo much he eats… the worms take what they need first which would make your kitty eat a lot and still not gain weight.

Some thoughts on worms he could have are round worms, tapeworms or hookworms. A stool sample will help you rule these out.

“is he wont eat wet food at all but i was also told that wet food is really bad for him ”

This is incorrect. Wet food is not bad for your cat. Wet food is the natural diet of the cat. Thier bodies were designed to digest wet food… not dry. It would take almost double the ammount of dry food to get to the same ammount of nutrients in a wet food. Most cats will overeat dry food because they need to to get the proper ammount of nutrition. Never free feed your cat dry food.

You may want to have a vet check to make sure that he doesn’t have worms. I’m glad his upper respiratory infection is gone…that’s a good thing. But please make sure he doesn’t have parasites that are making him overeat. I just keep a bowl of dry food and a dish of fresh water out for my cat to eat and drink when he feels like it. Good luck!

i know he keeps you up if you dont feed em before bed but i think that you should fill the bowl up and try to feed him 2 times a day with wet food. (and wet food is NOT bad for your cat, only some companies are) so just kinda diet em

Rich_hb I took a 6 month old kitten home from a family who wasn’t caring for him or feeding him properly and I had the similiar problem. My cat would inhale and whine for more he was always looking for food. I only feed him dry food because my vet has told me wet food is damaging to their teeth among other things and as long as they have plenty of water(I use a drinkwell fountain and they love it)they are fine without wet food.

It has been about a year and now he is 18 months old and the problem is beginning to subside. He still periodicaly tries to eat his “little sisters” (7 months) food but that is getting better too.

I feel, and other experts I talk to agree. that he was mistreated as a kitten and has food issues He thinks every meal is his last so he just keeps going and begiing. With alot of love and patiences as well as consistent feeding times ( 2x a day)I have been able to curb the problem and hopefully soon it will be gone for good– although he still inhales.

The other thing is I now buy Authority dry food from PetSmart. It is the least expensive of the higher end foods ( Iams, Science diet, etc..) I also reinforce good habits like not eating his sisters food or not whining with either one small temptations treat or his favorite rabbit fur mouse from Hartz. Good luck I was in your place this time last year and I know how frustrating it can get.
