Yoghurt has nutritional benefits beyond those of milk: people who are moderately lactose-intolerant can enjoy yoghurt without ill effects, because the lactose in the milk precursor is converted to lactic acid by the bacterial culture. The reduction of lactose bypasses the affected individuals\\\’ need to process the milk sugar themselves.

Yogurt is a milk product that has undergone fermentation. The lactic acid present in the milk is fermented by various bacteria. As a result of this process, live bacteria — lactic acid bacteria — are present in the yogurt, frequently the same bacteria that are present in the body\\\’s gastrointestinal system.

Yogurt is ok to give to dogs and cats in VERY small quantities. Plain, non-fat yogurt is better for them.

Whoever minused me needs to do your research before you disagree. Yogurt is given to animals - both dogs and cats after being on anti-biotics. It can be given to cats and dogs in small doses. Antibiotics can destroy the beneficial bacteria that reside in the gastrointestinal tract. Eating yogurt with live, active cultures helps to reestablish a healthy intestinal balance by increasing the microorganisms that are naturally present in the gastrointestinal tract. Plain yogurt without any artificial sweeteners or other additives will provide the probiotics your cat or dog needs in order to get the intestines back in order after a dose of anti-biotics. If your veterinarian recommends an antibiotic for a Guinea Pig, live culture yogurt or lactobacilli acidophilus capsules dissolved in water are recommended to reseed his gut with good bacteria. Chinchillas-Feed your chin yogurt with live cultures on a popsicle stick. Lactobacillus is the active ingredient in live-culture yogurt. It is a beneficial supplement with no side effects or risk of overdose. Alice Kline, a pioneer in chinchilla breeding, devoted one full chapter in her book to the attributes and benefits of the naturally occurring intestinal bacteria, Lactobacillus acidophilus. It helps promote proper digestion, produces many vitamins and releases a natural antibiotic that controls many disease-causing organisms. We have had sick cats, rabbits, guinea pigs and chinchillas. Our vets have always recommended yogurt.

Yogurt is a dairy product produced by bacterial fermentation of milk. But yogurt has live, active bacterial cultures. The bacteria in many brands of yogurt provide their own lactose-digesting enzymes and continue to digest the lactose even further once inside the digestive tract. Therefore lactose intolerant people as well as animals can digest it without a problem. It should not be used as a meal by any means.

yogurt is completely nutritional and acceptable to give to your cats. . . . but of course they have to be given in small quantities. and you cant give it to them more than 2 times a day. unless, your cat is lactose and tolerant then yogurt would be a very horrible mistake and possibly lethal depending on your cats immunity to it.
