Also, if you were referring to human canned food, most of that is loaded with stuff that is bad, if not poisonous, to cats such as a lot of salt, many spices (onion and garlic - poisonous), etc. And just because a cat seemed to suffer no ill effects from some human food, doesn\\\’t mean it is safe. Most poisons work slowly, destroying an organ (such as kidney) or system (such as circulatory) over a long time, especially if more doses are ingested.

Your cat\\\’s diet should be cat food. Canned cat food is fine if you want to go that route over dry cat food and is actually healthier in most cases. Some cats are pretty much full-grown already at 7 months old but if your cat is still growing, it should be eating kitten food. You can switch to adult cat food at one year old.

If you want to feed small treats of people food stick to items like plain boiled chicken or a *tiny tidbit* of tuna and don\\\’t give them more than a couple times a week. Avoid foods with a lot of salt, don\\\’t feed anything with onions, chives, garlic (all posoinous, as jpete46 mentioned), preservatives, food coloring, and so on. SOME meat baby foods are safe in a small amount but MAKE SURE onions, onion powder, and so on, are NOT listed anywhere in the ingredients.

A seven month old cat can eat solid food, but you should only feed your cat foods that are formulated for cats. They have different dietary needs that a piece of chicken or turkey (just examples) do not fulfill.
