It may be better to leave your cat with someone you can trust to take care of your cat, such as a family member.
Your cat may get nervous on the ride, but if you really want to take it then bring a cage to put it in so it does not distract the driver or get hurt.
Just as long as you remember to do the right thing your cat will be safe.

Yes just hold it tight and tell it you will have a bumpy ride! Or you can buy a cat crate!

i like your idea about holding him tight. if he is not prone to tearing up the house will he scratch up a rental car on a long trip?

regarding traveling 1000 miles to see my 80 yr old mom and dad with my 5yr old cat, when the cat was just a few wks old when we found him, he was sleeping in the ash tray of the rental car and jumping all over. our cat must be grateful, because he is very loving and well behaved and never does some of the things i read other cats with behavioral do,such as ruin the stuffing on the sofa, etc. our cat knows its boundaries,i am thinking he would love a car ride. could we stay in a hotel with him? at home he has his big screened in porch and has a wicker loveseat the scratch up.

A cat kennel would be a good idea, it would keep him from bumping around during the ride. If you put the kennel facing the window, that might help, because he could see what was going on. You could also get some anxiety pills from a pet supply store. Be sure that you check out the hotel’s website, in order to make sure that they allow pets.

That’s a tough one. My dog loves car rides. But I think maybe you should leave him at home with food and water or with a trusted friend or family member. Unless, of course, your cat shows signs of wanting to go. Such as jumping in the car when you open the door. That’s what my dog does and after that, it’s impossible to get her out!! Lol. Sorry, this is a cat website. I should stop babbling on about dogs shouldn’t I? Yeah, okay.
