I ride horses a lot and I am at the stables a lot. Is it okay to bring my cat with me on a leash? There are many dogs there not on leashes because people bring their dogs with them to the stables.

Definitely NOT a good idea. Not only the safety of your cat but the safety of riders as well. Where would you plan to keep the cat while you’re riding?? No, leave your cat at home where he’s safe.

Sorry to say this, but check out my answer! It is correct. It is not true that cats can't go to a barn and be with other animals and play. You are correct on one thing, where will she put the cat? Well, i know a place. You can but him in the barn house and let him walk around in the barn! Did you know cats are good explorers?

And what if there is a resident cat that prefers another cat not intrude on his territory???? And what if someone accidentally lets the cat out of the barn house???? Exploring is what gets cats into trouble. It would be putting a cat into a dangerous situation. Seriously, think about this.

As for playing with other animals...very doubtful that a cat would be "playing" with the other animals there. And many barns would not allow you to bring your cat because of the problems it could cause.

No! That would be a very scary sight to see that cat get loose and run in front of a horse while someone riding it! Cats are better left at home. They can get scared and can become very…shall I say “annoying” if you think you can just bring her to a barn with lots of horses. Barn cats are one thing, but house cats– they’re another!

Cats like to be outside, but that doesn't mean they have to be(they *can* be happy inside, too). I've known lots of outdoor cats that have lived past the '3-5 years' outdoor cats are supposed to live. BUT, it's not safe. Some can take that chance, but others would be smart enough NOT too.

Very true larka. The do not have to be outside to be happy. Our ferals have NEVER tried to go outside since we brought them home. Even the older male and females that spent a couple years out side. It's just too dangerous and I'm not one who will gamble on the life of my cats.

You could but if one of the dogs takes a shot at your cat or one of the horses scares it, be prepared for said cat to climb up you like a tree and claw you half to pieces. It’s not a good idea at all, really.

I agree, but not on one tiny little thing. It is a good idea.

Ok, lets settle this(it’s hilarious…making me laugh–ha ha). Reasons why NOT to take cat to barn:
1. Unleashed dogs that, either could not like your cat, or scare your cat.
2. Barn animals such as dogs and cats aren’t ALWAYS 100% vaccinated considering half were dropped off by owner surrenders, so the farmer is just giving them a roof over their heads, not health inspections(some do, but not a lot).
3. Horses that spook
4. WHERE would you put this cat?
5. You cat MIGHT get loose and you’d never see it again
6. Put all together:
Your cat gets loose, runs to the barn dogs. They have worms and fleas, which they give to your cat. Then, the dogs scare the cat away, intern making the cat run towards the trotting horses, which spooks the heck out of everyone, and may hurt somebody. Take my advice–don’t bring it to the stable.

Yes because some cats historicly lived in barns and farms or many kinds. Horses i heard do not harm unless someone or something is behind it and it kicks. Very well, DON’T let your cat behind a horse if you do bring him!

It's not just about a horse kicking the cat! It's about the chaos that could result from having this cat there. It’s about this cat getting loose and lost. It’s about something spooking the cat that could result in the cat getting lost or…. It’s about the danger to the horses and riders if something were to happen . Perhaps a dog that hates cats…goes after cat…horse spooks….takes off…and horses can spook. I think you just want to argue this without putting any real thought into why it’s not a good idea.

Larka, this person has a long track record of being contrary just for the sake of being contrary. It's the way she gets attention for herself, you are best just ignoring it, it's certainly not worth getting upset over. Most people who've been here any amount of time realize by now that any answers from this person are going to be worthless at best.
