Cats are nocturnal creatures, meaning they sleep during the day and hunt at night. All small domestic cats descended from desert cats in the Middle East. Because of the heat of the day over there most cats sleep during the day and are active at night when it’s cooler out.

Our little kitties kept that trait and are still nocturnal. Fortunately, for most owners, their cats will develop their sleeping patterns and learn to sleep at night. But it can be very problematic for new kitten owners as kittens are almost always nocturnal winding up just before their humans’ bedtime. Again, they usually out grown this and learn their humans schedule but it’s still annoying to be pounced on at 2am and awoken out of a dead sleep by a bed leaping kitty!

A day has twenty-four hours, and your cat will sleep for some sixteen of them. It doesn’t really rest more than a person in a single span, but instead spreads out its “naps” over the entire day.

A cat needs so much sleep because of its eating pattern. Hunting mice can take quite a bit of energy and can make a cat sleepy. The same holds true for domestic cats who “catch” only their toy mice.

Cats are nocturnal animals, which means they hunt at night. Like all wild cats, house cats do the same. Its not really because cats hunt mice and get tired, wild cats hunt many mice a day, but at night, when they are invisable to prey. The camoflauge part is what they seek to surprise their prey. Also, not all cats hunt. Sleeping alot is a natural thing to do for cats, just like lions who sleep for around 18 hours. Johnisgood2 has the right answer.

cats can’t actually see in the dark. they need the least bit of light so it can reflect off of their eyes. Cats are naturaly nocturnal animals so they sleep during the day. cats also need 14-18 hours a day.

Cats normally sleep for 17-20 hrs a day. They sleep so much because they are nocturnal animals. They hunt at night and do all activities at night and sleep much in daylight. Its quite natural so you don’t need to worry about it. But you should also play with your cat and keep him/her active so that it does not become lazy.

That is not why cats sleep all day. Cats sleep all day because they wake up and hunt in the night. Cats are one of the few animals that can see stuff in darkness. So, when all the other animals are asleep, the cat is awake and kills the unexpecting animals.
