Will my cat go into the middle of the road?
I live on a busy road but it is not a high way and sometimes Candie goes outside and I can’t find her! Will she go into the middle of the road not knowing that cars can kill her? or does she know that they are dangerous and not go near them?

Cats usually don’t understand that cars can kill them so it’s very important that you keep your cat indoors and safe from harm.

it's safe to let your cat outside. Cars are loud and large and cats are can tell they're dangerous.

My cat got killed on the road.
But, if your cat is timid she will probably avoid cars, if your cat is playful she might go near the road. It is safer if you keep your cat inside or in your backyard.

Sorry to hear about your cat.

The thing is, my backyard is next to the road. And my cat always runs outside whenever I open the door.

It would be much better to keep your cat indoors because cars can kill them so it is n’t safe

cats can tell cars are dangerous. It's a very small risk to have your feline enjoy life outside

Here is my family’s method of “CAR-PROOFING A CAT OR DOG”
The neighbors will think you’re crazy, but it really works!
- Requires:
- three people, one of whom is the cat’s owner, and one of whom has good aim
- a pickup truck or car with a sunroof
- a rain slicker and hat
- a big bucket of water
- a cat
The cat’s owner puts on the rain slicker and hat. The person with good aim gets in the back of the pickup truck (or stands up sticking out of the car’s sunroof) with the bucket of water. The third person drives the vehicle.
The cat’s owner kneels on the curb next to the street, holding the cat very firmly.
The driver starts down the street very… slowly… from at least 10 carlengths away.
When he reaches the cat, he honks the horn loud and long! as he passes by.
At the same time, the person with the water throws it on the cat. (Not the bucket, just the water.)
Make sure the owner doesn’t let go! but takes the cat to the safety of the backyard, etc.
That cat will never challenge a car again. This works best if the cat is under 6 months old as the imprinting will have the most lasting effect.
Yes, your cat will get wet and frightened that one time, but if you’ve ever had to bury a cat that’s been hit by a car, you will love the peace of mind that your cat is “car-proofed.”

Sadly if you think this works, I feel sorry for your cats.

You should just not take a chance and keep your cat inside. They way not like it at first, but it’s for their own good.

how long have you lived in your house? if it has been for a while, then she know better than to run in the street. i have a cat that loves to go outside he probably spends 75-85% of his time outside and my street does get pretty busy at times, but what i have learned is that he will stay within one hundred yards or so of our house. trust me, i get freaked out when my cat is out side for too long, but don’t worry. they are smart animals.

street cats are aware that cars are dergeruse, but some house cats are not aware:(

my cat has been outside before and we found him alive. your cat will probly avoid cars. maybe it will get scared and come back home?

She might. My cats like to lay on the road because it’s warm on sunny days. Luckily cats are quite smart, and can tell that the huge, load, growling moster (a car) is dangerous, and will quickly get out of the way. I’ve had cats that do this my entire life, and not one has ever been hurt by a vehicle.
I think it is quite safe to let your cats out, if you care for them propaly, like getting them collars. I think it is mean to keep a cat inside all the time without a good reason.

For one, I would NEVER let my cat lay in the middle of the road! That's pretty much the same thing as throwing your cat in the washing machienie and then pressing the "on" button!!! Instead, I would move my car and let my cat lie down on the hot tar in my driveway. I have always kept my cats inside and they are the happiest cats I've ever known.
