Your kitten should definitely see a vet because it likely has worms. Most all kittens need dewormed and only a wormer from the vets should be used.

However, it it not necessary for your vet to administer your kittens FVRCP shots if you know what your doing. Local Farm stores do sell these vaccinations. Rabies is the only vaccination that must be admistered by a vet by law. You would need to see a vet for that.

For more information on vaccinations… see this question that I answered.

Let me just add, because I know how jumpy people get, that I do NOT recommend giving your cats thier own shots Just pointing out that you do not need a vet to get the FVRCP vaccinations.

If you don't have a vet that you use...get a phone book and look up vets in your area. Call them and see if they are taking new clients.

NEVER declaw your cat! If you love your cat, do not declaw him! It is serious surgery and cruel! Your cat’s claw is not a toenail. It is actually closely adhered to the bone. So closely adhered that to remove the claw, the last bone of your the cat’s claw has to be removed. Declawing is actually an amputation of the last joint of your cat’s “toes”. When you envision that, it becomes clear why declawing is not a humane act. It is a painful surgery, with a painful recovery period. And remember that during the time of recuperation from the surgery your cat would still have to use its feet to walk, jump, and scratch in its litter box regardless of the pain it is experiencing. We have 30 cats -inside cats - 20 of them are ferals -and no damage has been done to our house. We have many scratching posts and condos as well as some pine boards for them to scratch on. We spray their scratching posts with catnip spray. And we keep their nails trimmed. They sell caps that glue onto the nail that are much more humane.

If you have furniture you care about more than your cat, you should not have a cat.

Nevr declaw your cat! It's cruel! Most people think declawing is just like taking fingernails off, but the toe bones are taken away as well. It would be like having our fingers removed down to the second knuckle. It is very painful because they have to walk around on thier paws all the time afterwards. It takes a long time to heal and sometimes it even never heals. Scrathing only comes naturaly to a cat. It is cruel to try and stop them, so they can be trained to scratch posts, etc instead of furnirute. If you declaw your cat you care more about your furniture then your cat!
