My indoor cat really seems to want to get outside. She crawls up the screen, tries to run out all doors or windows when they are opened. She’s about 8 months old. What does this mean? What should I do? I live in a city, she can’t be an outdoor cat.

Your kitten might be trying to get outside because she’s in heat. If she is, any male cats in the vicinity could have picked up her scent, and they might be calling to her. If she’s in heat, she desperately wants to find a mate. If your kitten is not in heat, she’s probably just bored. Provide her with plenty of toys and interactive play time. Chasing a string or ball will help her get some exercise and possibly calm her down. You might want to take her outside for walks on a leash or harness. Also, getting her a companion might help, too. It’s a good idea to keep her as an inside cat. Inside cats live several years longer on the average than outside cats, and with your living in the city, the streets can be a deadly place for a pet.

you should let your cat go out side but only is you keep an eye on your cat and don’t let it eat anything off the ground.

Try bringing your cat out on a leash. I started taking him out about 6 months ago. Before he went outside would lay in window and just lay there and watch. he loves going out and exploring. He used to watch butterflies from the window and know he is out there chasing them. He has a harness on and use a retractable leash. I out there with him whole time with him to. he loves finding bugs and pouncing and lots of stuff
