My cat brings dead rodents to the door, what do I do?
My cat brings dead rodents to the back door of our house to show me. What is the best way to dispose of it? I don’t want to attract other larger animals.

Some folks choose to bury the carcasses of these “gifts” in their back yards. Bury them deep though, or other outdoor critters might dig up the remains. Other pet parents just bag up the remains and dispose of them in the regular trash. It’s recommended that you place any remains outside your home and in a covered trashcan until trash removal day.

This is a natural behavior. Your cat is trying to take care of you! Cats teach their kittens how to hunt by bringing them dead animals. Your cat never sees you hunt mice, (of course!) so she asumes that you don’t know how. She is afraid you will starve, and she’s trying to teach you to hunt!

My cat whatsit used to leave these 'presents' on my moms doorstep. He died out on a hunting expedition.
