indoor cats outside on a leash

6 Answers  |  Asked By: mpro165   31

How come people don’t take their indoor cat outside on a leash. Why do dogs get to go out on a leash and not even give a second thought about bringing their cat to do the same. I hope more people realize that can be an option intead of only indoor or out door

I have heard that leashes don\\\’t work very well for cats with collars, but work well with harnesses (but that puts the owner to the trouble of getting them into the harness). But, also, seeing how most owners who don\\\’t walk their cats are seldom outside, I think it is a good idea for the cats to urge their owners to go outside and get some exercise and fresh air and offer to accompany their owners.

I take my cat out on her harness and leash sometimes. You just have to get them used to it when they are young. Some cats wont ever like it but others will enjoy their time outside. You just have to try it out and see what your cat likes.

I support your thoughts. But most cats don\\\’t like this in the first place, but get on fine afterwards. But their owners worry for them. there is another reason and that is dogs. dogs go on walks often and can be seen most of the times. If they see a cat they will simply chase and kill them with pleasure. So its dangerous.

I don\\\’t understand the concept of only outdoor cats, surely they\’re feral?

If you\’re worried about taking your cat out without a leash, STOP IT! cats are very clever don\\\’t be so paranoid they\\\’re going to die if left to roam!
Just don\’t leave indoor cats alone on their first few visits out.

Putting your cat on a leash is inhumane. Dogs are designed for it. But cats hate things around their necks. It\\\’s kind of like being cruel to your cat if you put it on a leash. If you want your cat to have fresh air, try building a small fenced-in play area behind your house.

Taking a cat out on a harness and leash isnt cruel as long as you are patient and dont pull or drag it. Dogs arent designed for anything either, they are just dogs, its people who decided one day to put a collar on them and a leash. Some cats will accept a harness and leash and others wont like it, you just have to respect the cats tolerance level for it and not force it.
