Both of my cats are indoor cats, but I do know many, many people who let their cats out without supervision. Sometimes its hard to do so because you let your cat out at different times or it has a catflap and you have to do stuff and dont realize. I believe you may be right fefe, your cat can get injured, but you really have to know (if you have a catflap) if your cat has chosen to go out or not. I find its a good idea if you have a leash or you let it go out at certain times where you can see your cat. Fefe, I think your tip is a good one.

My cat stays inside. We live in rural Southern Oregon, and there are many dangers out there, including people who drive way too fast down our road. Earl Gray stays inside where he is safe and cozy. (Although he is pawing my laptop while I type this. He likes to help.)

What do you mean only if you're with them? Do you mean you let them just walk around the backyard supervised.

Plain and simple - you run the risk of losing your cat. No matter how you justify it, you ARE putting your cat at risk. So keep that in mind when something happens. You were warned. Minus me…I don’t care. I’m not here to make points. I’m here because CATSdeserveLIFE.

We keep our cats inside 99% of the time. Occasionally I’ll take the older one outside for some fresh air (the younger one is too little) and I don’t let her out of my sight. I read in a book that cats live longer if they stay indoors. My mom says when she was little she had a cat named Muffin. She was playing with him and he scratched her, so she put him outside to calm him down. Later, she looked outside to fine that Muffin was lying in the street, dead. Personally, my opinion is that you should let your cat outside every once in a while, but don’t let him out of your sight, but if you feel outside is best, let them inside on cold days and during the rain, and put sunscreen on them on sunny days.

My family has two cats that are strictly indoor.

If they weren’t so stressed out by other cats, I’d have my cats indoors with them.

All of mine live outside 24/7. It’s dangerous and I spend as much time with them as I can, though they really don’t stray far. I did, however, lose one of the feral kittens I’ve been caring for. About two months ago she was killed by a careless driver.

Why would you let a feral kitten roam around. And it obviously got killed cause it went outside.

All three of my cats go outside. I know there are risks but I think it’s worth it for them to live a fullfilling life outside. Although I know there are some reason it might be nececary for your cat to stay inside. Like you live on a busy street or in a city, or the cat’s sick or something. Luckily my neighbourhood has very few cars and no big dogs or aggresive cats or foxes or racoons.
