I noticed my cat sneezing like crazy the past two days; it is unusual for him to do this. The only thing I did different was buy a different brand litter that has ‘herbal odor control’ from Costco. On a side note my other cat doesn’t seem to be having any problems.

Many litters have fragrances that can cause sneezing in cats and some can cause serious respiratory problems. We have one cat with asthma that can not use any litter that has any kind of fragrances. I would try a fragrance free litter or go back to what you were using before. If your cat has runny eyes or nose, you should have him checked for an upper respiratory infection. Unless you put the cat with the sneezing in a room by itself, there\\\’s no way to keep him out of the litter that might be bothering him. Doubtful that he realizes the sneezing is caused by the litter. I would get rid of the new litter until I figured out if it is the litter or not.

Cats, like people, can just be bothered by something that is too dusty or perfumed.

And people, like cats, can be trained to use a litterbox.

Whether your cat is allergic to it or not, if it is causing problems for your cat, you should switch to something else. First you should switch back to your old litter for a couple of days to see if the new litter is the problem. if it is the problem, you should have two litter boxes, one for each cat. That way you can use up the new litter with the cat that is not bothered by it. Constant stressing of your cat is not good for its health or for your relationship with the cat (has it ever snuck outside, where it could run away? if something caused you to sneeze like crazy, you would not intentionally go near it. Or your cat may just start avoiding the litter box - look out carpet)… If the litter is not the culprit, your cat may have an upper respiratory illness (and should see a vet), or perhaps just has a cold.

Ugh. Scented cat litter. I HATE scented cat litter.
Your best bet for cat litter is UNscented, clumping litter. The more inert, the better. The less dust, the better. I\\\’ve had good luck with clumping clay litter from PetCo (the refillable stuff they sell in the big bin) and UNscented Arm & Hammer Superscoop (they also sell a scented version, look for the BLUE label, not the green).

All you need to do is fire your cat out of a tennis ball machine into his litterbox; regardless of whether or not he likes the litter he\\\’ll use it immediate. Nothing like a high velocity flight into a litterbox to clear out the pipes.
