I have never really trained a cat to use a litter box. I just gave them one when they were little and they instinctually knew that is where you had to go potty.

I got my cat Alissa from a pet shop and she was already litter box trained. But I have baby kitties and when they were 3 weeks old I put a litter box in with them and put them in it and it took about 2-3 days. Now I have no problem with them and they are 5 weeks old now.
