i have a 2 week old kitten ( i think he’s 2 weeks old)
my husband found him at work, he is a boy. but what i want to know is how can i tell his age, his eyes are closed and his ears are back, not walking just “crawling”. we are giving him a bottle with kitty formula ( Just Born) how often do we fed him and how long should he be sleeping. i have never had a kitty this young so i am not sure. we have him in a enclosed kitty carrier (soft inside ) and put a towel over the opening. also we put a old terry cloth towel in there for him to sleep on. is there more i should be doing?

Make sure you are stimulating his genitals with a warm cotton ball after each feeding. If you don\\\’t do this, he will not be able to relieve himself and will become blocked. This can take 5 to 10 minutes. He will be sleeping most of the time now. He will be steadier on his feet at 3 weeks old. Four weeks he will be awake more and begin to play.
If a kitten cries, he is either cold or hungry. A contented kitten sleeps quietly.
1-3 weeks: Feed every 3 hours
3 weeks: Feed every 4 hours (6 feedings per day)
4 weeks: Feed every 5 hours (5 feedings a day)
5 weeks: Feed four to five times a day.
Warm the milk.
Invert the bottle to let the milk ooze out slowly before inserting into the kitten\\\’s mouth.
Avoid feeding the kitten while he\\\’s on his back. It\\\’s acceptable for the kitten to slightly elevate his front paws.
Check that the kitten\\\’s abdomen is enlarged but not overextended after feeding. Kittens should gain 50 to 100 g per week.
Never overfeed a kitten Some kittens will eat and eat as long as food is offered to them. Follow the instructions and guidelines on the container of kitten formula. When the kitten is three to four weeks old, you can begin weaning the kitten with baby food (GERBER Chicken, Turkey or Beef) or canned kitten food mixed with KMR.
Shorthair kittens begin to open their eyes at 5-8 days.
Longhair kittens do not open their eyes until 10-14 days. Kittens\\\’ eyes are beautiful deep orbs of blue at first. They will look like this until the kittens are three weeks old. Then the iris and pupil will form and the kitten\\\’s permanent eye colors will slowly emerge. At first, although the eyes are open, the kittens are still almost completely blind.
at three weeks, the ears will be completely erect…
His tail should be short and stiff. It will become longer and flexible when the kitten is four or five weeks old. You will also notice that their heads are disproportionally large, their torsos are very short and their legs are stumpy, especially their front legs. This adds to their clumsiness.
At twenty-five days, they will be walking on all four legs, but they aren\\\’t coordinated yet.
Teeth are also a good way to determine age.
2 weeks: Deciduous incisors (the small teeth at the front) begin to come in.
3 - 4 weeks: Deciduous canines (the long, pointy teeth next to the front teeth) begin to come in.
4 - 6 weeks: Deciduous pre-molars (also known biscupids, these are the teeth located between the canine and molar teeth) begin to come in.
8 weeks: All baby teeth have come in.
Adult teeth:
12 - 16 weeks: Incisors come in.
4 - 6 months: Canines, pre-molars & molars come in.
7 months: All adult teeth should be fully developed.

At 4 weeks you should start mixing a mash of formula with canned kitten food but don\\\’t leave it out too long as it can sour. Continue to stimulate them to relieve themselves until you SEE them using the litter pan by themselves. Do not stop this until you are sure they can relieve themselves without help.
By five weeks they should be off the bottle and eating from a dish by themselves. Keep a close eye on them and make sure they ARE eating enough before you take the bottle away.
Put their formula in a dish and have a separate dish with the mash of formula and canned food gradually decreasing the formula so that they are eating just canned food. Also have a dish of hard kitten food available at all times when they’re 5 weeks old.

Feeding can be done with an eyedropper or a nursing bottle (available at the vet). If using the eyedropper be careful not to force feed the kitten. Let the baby suck the fluid at its own pace, otherwise you can fill the baby\\\’s lungs with milk and cause pneumonia.
