Cats are daily groomers. They give themselves good lick bathes almost constantly, so you really only need to bathe your cat once every six to eight months. Unless kitty played in the garden and got muddy and dirty. Remember, run a warm bathe first, then turn the taps off. Running taps scare cats, rinse her with a plastic water pitche. Its easier, calmer, and safer for both of you. Use only cat shampoo. NEVER use human shampoo. Its too strong, and it could give kitty a bad rash. Towel her off then try using a hair dryer. Stay away from her ears, you don’t want to burn them. When all is done, and she is clean, dry, and brushed out (especially if she has medium or long hair) give her a kitty treat and leave her to settle somewhere warm and quiet. Baths are necessary, and stressful. Take care and have fun.

Cats are fastidious self-groomers, and many cats can go a lifetime without requiring a true bath. This is generally a good thing, because most cats aren’t big fans of the bathing process, and bathing a cat is generally not for the inexperienced cat owner, or the faint of heart. Some cats do require bathing, usually for medical reasons. Cats being treated for skin infections or fungal infections, such as ringworm, may need regular baths to treat and prevent reoccurrence of skin problems. Older and overweight cats may not be able to groom themselves as thoroughly, and may require routine bathing in order to keep up their personal hygiene. An occasional bath may be necessary if your cat gets sprayed by a skunk, gets unusually dirty, or gets a foreign substance on his or her coat. But for the average, healthy cat, a good brushing program may be able to replace the bath for routine coat care.

You should rarely bath a cat. cats clean them selves very well. the only reason you should bath a cat is when he smell or looks very dirty.and do not use human soap that will harm a cat. buy cat soap, they have it at your local wal-mart
