Animals shed; it’s just how they roll. Remember that it’s peak shedding time, too. Animals are ridding themselves of their thick winter coat. In general, make sure that you are grooming your cat regularly (try a de-shedding tool like the Furminator - it ROCKS!!!) and feeding him/her a high quality diet. Those things will help reduce shedding.

And its getting close to summer, so your cats will probably want to get rid of their old winter coat.

Cats do change their coloration markings. I have a Norwegian forest cat with a black raccoon-like mask around the eyes, and white nose/cheeks/jaw. The mask used to go thru the back half of each eye (changing to white fur closer to her nose), but as Boots got older the mask moved toward the nose to cover both eyes. Her tail has also gotten quite a bit grayer. Also when I first met her she had a very long white bib. She kept that for two years, but then last summer she shed it to the point that it was the same length as the rest of her fur. She now appears to be growing it back. I also had a domestic medium hair tabby who started out with mostly normal stripes. But as he got older, the (black) stripes thickened, sometimes blending together, and turned/curved. I think someone called this a ‘marble’ tabby.

My short-haired kitty sheds all the time! We have to put a towel on the sofa so she won’t get fur all over it! And Siamese kittens’ fur changes the most. When they are kittens, they are almost completely white, just like Dalmation puppies. Dalmations get their spots as they grow older, and Siamese kitties get their points.

It's perfectly normal for short haired animals to shed--They're animals! My one black and white domestic short haired sheds so much that I wonder if long haired cats shed as much as she does! Sometimes people say "Oh my children have slight allergies to cats, but getting a short-haired one shouldn't hurt." Well, they are almost just as much as difficult with their hair as long haired cats. Make sure to brush your cat at least every other day! Be careful with de-shedding tools because some are to rough on cats fur. Try it out on your arm first, and if it hurts you, then it will hurt the cat(or dog too).
