What is the best way to keep my cat from getting her claws caught in my new Berber carpet. She is mainly an indoor cat. She doesn’t seem to have a favorite “scratching place” outside, and I can’t interest her in an indoor one?

If her claws keep getting stuck, they probably need clipped. That\\\’s always how I notice that it\\\’s time to clip my cats\\\’ nails, when I see them getting stuck on the carpet or their scratching post.
What kinds of scratching surfaces have you tried for her? I\\\’d get a variety of surfaces: sisal, cardboard, carpet. Try some mounted upright, some flat on the floor. Sprinkle some catnip or use a catnip spray on it, too, to get her interested in it. How old is she? You may need to actually take her paws and \\\”scratch\\\” them over the surface of the scratching post. Sometimes they don\\\’t realize what it is until you go through the motions for them. I had to do that with my first cat.

They should be clipped shorter. If you are afraid of doing that and you don\\\’t have someone to do it for you, buy a cardboard type scratching post. One flat and one elevated. Sprinkle catnip of spray catnip spray to train your cat to use it. You can also put a plate of tuna or catnip in your hand or wiggle a toy and encourage it to use the scratching post. When it uses it, give it the tuna or catnip or the toy.

Most of the time when they get stuck you need to clip the claws. Now as far as scratching post go, I never had much luck with them until I got a cat tree with rope around the poles. They just love it. Most of the time they like something that doesn\\\’t move around much. Also I really like sticky paws to convince them to use something besides my funiture.

It does sound like her claws just need clipping, my cat sometimes does this too….but it\\\’s just because cats claws get too sharp and too long sometimes.

They probably need clip. Are cat\\\’s claws got stuck in the carpet until we had wood flooring installed.
