You absolutely should groom your cat, regardless of its fur length. Regular brushing of its fur will keep loose fur from being ingested by your cat, which will help alleviate uncomfortable hair balls. It will also keep your cat from shedding all over your furniture and keep its coat looking good.

Agreed, Ziggy. No matter WHAT length of fur, or how often your cat grooms itself, it should be brushed often. Long haired cats do shed more, but short haired cats still shed a lot. I have one short haired that sheds like crazy, and I brush her everyday. I almost have no cat hair that way. It\\\’s only a 10 minute session when I\\\’m watching TV and then I don\\\’t have to worry about white hairs all over my black shirt/skirt/pants.
Decide how often you\\\’d like or have time to groom your cat for–a good idea is while you\\\’re watching TV. If you brushed your cat once a day–long of short haired– you wouldn\\\’t have very much shedding around the house. You can even do it every-other day, to two times a week. You can decide that on how much your cat sheds.
